Medical records must be completed by all physicians involved in the patient’s care prior to being copied and released to the patient. This process can take up to 30 days. The patient may receive a copy of his/her medical record, upon completion, for a fee. Patient-related information may also be released to a physician or medical facility for follow-up care of the patient when needed, free of charge. We encourage patients to request medical record information at least 10 days prior to any follow-up care. GW Hospital has contracted with HealthPort to process your request for medical records. Medical Record Information is processed and mailed within 7-10 business days.
The hospital permits patients to bring and use personal clothing and possessions; however, patients are encouraged to leave their valuables, such as jewelry and large amounts of cash, at home for safekeeping. The hospital will not be responsible for the loss, damage or theft of personal items brought to the hospital. Patients arriving at the hospital with valuable possessions will be encouraged to send them home with a family member or friend for safekeeping. Depending on the patient’s state of consciousness, that determination may be made by either the patient or caregiver. Only patients with no known next of kin, or patients who are unconscious and alone, will be permitted to store items in the Security Department. If you lose something, immediately notify your nurse, who will report the loss to Security. All found items should be brought to Security.
The George Washington University Hospital offers patients and visitors 24-hour access to an automated teller machine (ATM) in the main lobby and just outside the gift shop on the first floor.
