Your EPR & EPR Patient Portal - CHT

35 hours ago When you first want to use a health and care website, app or service you may be asked to create an NHS login. You need an email address and mobile phone number to set this up. The first time you set up your NHS login, you'll need to prove who you are. This is so you can be connected to your NHS record. It also protects your health information. >> Go To The Portal

What is an EPR?

Your guide to Electronic Patient Records (EPR) The EPR is a method of storing medical records and notes electronically rather than in bound paper bundles, thus allowing the effective accessing and sharing of data. EPRs should encompass the entire digital record ecosystem rather than just refer to the standalone viewer application.

What is the NHS electronic staff record (ESR)?

As the workforce solution for the NHS, the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) supports the delivery of national workforce policy and strategy. The ESR Hub provides access to the NHS ESR and useful online resources.

What do I need to set up my NHS login?

The first time you set up your NHS login, you'll need to prove who you are. This is so you can be connected to your NHS record. It also protects your health information. Once you've registered and passed all identity checks, you can log in to the health and care website, app or service you want to access.

What is the difference between a Master Patient Index and EPR?

On top of these, a shared Master Patient Index (or “Patient Administration System”) provides patient demographics (name, address, date of birth etc.) and feeds into most of the systems. An EPR takes information feeds from the departmental systems and can provide information from its enterprise-wide components such as scheduling.

How secure is eLancs?

Access to records will only be available to authorised staff and there is a strict governance policy around this. The information will be stored off site and the data will therefore be less vulnerable to cyber-attack or to outside agencies. All patient data will be stored in the UK.

What will happen to paper records?

Electronic patient records will start to be built as soon as the system is introduced. Over time paper records will gradually become less relevant and the need to access and store them will reduce. Paper records that need to be accessible on the new system can be scanned in and there is also functionality built in to create forms.

Will it link up with other local trusts?

Yes. We’re currently working with Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust Integrated Care System and other regional providers in development of a solution that will feed into local trusts. It is important patients can move smoothly between services.

Will the new system provide links across Primary, Secondary and Community Care?

Yes. eLancs is a cloud-based system, so it will provide access at different points in patient care. We are currently working through the patient pathway to identify what kinds of access are needed and when. EMIS will continue to be used and accessible through the Electronic Patient Record, as well as the community element of ICE.

Will the IT infrastructure be able to cope?

Enhanced resilience is already being built into our IT systems to ensure the infrastructure is ready and suitable for eLancs. Developments include quadrupling internet speeds across the Trust, introduction of 400 new wireless access points and the addition of new network technology that’s ten times faster.

Will there be a link to the pharmacy system?

Yes. There will be an interface built in to enable a live link between eLancs and the pharmacy system. A key member of the team is the Chief Pharmacy Information Officer who is leading on this part of the project.

What is EPR in the UK?

The term EPR does technically refer to the entire ecosystem including all the ‘local clinical’ systems.

What is EHR in healthcare?

The next level up from the EPR is the Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) which conceptually builds a patient’s record from the cradle to the grave. An EHR is a combination of systems (GP, community, mental, sexual and offender care systems) that can communicate data with EPRs and vice versa. The EHR allows the EPR to communicate information with other systems, going beyond traditional organisational boundaries.
