Early urine may be orange or pink colored and usually gets lighter as the days go by. This early color is caused by urate crystals and you may actually see some crystals, but this is normal. Your baby should have a minimum of 2 to 3 wet diapers in a 24 hour period.
Irritability : This is when your baby is crying more than normal and you have done all of the usual things that normally calm him down. An irritable infant does not act the same as usual. Colic, crying for feedings, crying for a diaper change are all very common, and are not considered irritability .
Diarrhea: This occurs when stools or bowel movements are more frequent and more loose than normal. Babies can lose weight if they are having diarrhea, so if you feel that your baby is having diarrhea, please call our office.
Babies do not need lotions, powders or oils, but if you use them, please stop if the baby’s skin appears irritated. Stooling: Babies have different patterns of stooling. Breast fed babies have stools that are slimy yellow or green and this is normal, and they may have stools after every feeding.
Sleeping Position: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all infants sleep on their back. This is to reduce the chance of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS or crib death). Smoking: You should not allow your baby around people smoking, especially in the house or car.
Some babies have pasty, yellow, cottage cheese-like stool, and this is also normal. Some babies grunt and strain, and turn red in the face to have a bowel movement and this is also normal. Some babies have a stool after every feeding and some babies may only have them daily, or once a week.
Some infants require more sleep than others, but if your baby is sleeping more than normal and has slept through 2 or more feedings, please call our office. Coinsurance is the amount you are required to pay for medical care in a fee-for-service plan after you have met your deductible. The coinsurance rate is usually expressed as a percentage. For example, if your insurance pays 80% of the claim, then you pay 20%.
If you are enrolled in a managed care insurance plan (HMO), you will need to obtain a referral/authorization from our office prior to seeing a specialist. We will not issue retroactive referrals, so you will need to get this prior to seeing a specialist.

TEDI BEAR Children’s Advocacy Center: This center offers children who have been physically and sexually abused, as well as parents “nurturance” parenting programs and education. WIC – Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, & Children: Provides federal grants to states for nutrition education and counseling, supplemental foods, referrals, and breastfeeding education and support for qualified children from birth to age 5 that are found to be at a nutritional risk.
Eastern Carolina Pediatric Associates has evolved over the past 30 years from its humble beginning in Darlington, S.C. During its existence it has gone through several name changes as the number of physicians on staff have grown.

To prevent having a no-show appointment, you must call the office at least 24 hours before your appointment when canceling or rescheduling. Forms (e.g. school, camp, sport, WIC, certificate of immunization) not requested during an office visit will incur a $5 processing charge.
