She received a BA from SUNY Oswego 1986, and her RN from Joseph’s School of Nursing, 1993. She became a Board Certified WOCN in 2010, She received her MSN at Lemoyne College’s Family Nurse Practitioner Graduate Program, graduating in May 2019 with the distinction of Summa Cum Laude and receiving the Patricia L. Donnelly Leadership Award. Melanie lives in Camillus with her two young adult children Nicholas and Hannah.

She started her nursing career in 2003 at University hospital, where she was employed for almost ten years. She worked in the Neuroscience Intermediate Care Unit as a Patient Service Leader (PSL).
