What is the ED at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center?

Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center’s Emergency Department (ED) team works hard to provide exceptional, personalized care to North Country residents. CHMC’s ED is staffed with registered nurses, emergency services assistants, mid-level providers, physicians, and behavioral health staff. Our ED has approximately 13,000 visits a year.

Outpatient Services

All visitation for outpatient services at CHMC facilities is suspended unless: -The patient needs physical assistance -The patient needs assistance due to an intellectual disability -The patient is a minor -Surgical patients are allowed (1) support person during their stay -OBGYN patients can have (1) support person in ultrasound

COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics

CHMC will be offering COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics when available. The most up-to-date information on such vaccine clinics can be found here.

COVID-19 Testing

Due to travel requirements, more and more people are seeking COVID-19 testing. Most insurance companies will not pay for COVID-19 testing that is not medically necessary. Testing for recreational or travel purposes is not deemed medically necessary.

CHMC Nursing Advice Hotline & Respiratory Clinic

For those seeking local, immediate information on COVID-19, when to seek treatment, and how to seek treatment, contact the Nursing Advice Hotline, 315.713.6655, between 7 am and 3 pm, seven days a week, to speak to a CHMC representative. Press 3 to schedule an appointment at the Respiratory Clinic or speak to a nurse.

COVID-19 Screening at CHMC Facilities

In order to ensure the safety of patients, their families, and visitors, CHMC is enacting screening protocols for all those that enter CHMC’s hospital, clinic, and other facilities.
