Patient Education in Radiology Services

In addition to providing women with accurate, timely services in a welcoming environment, Cheyenne Women’s Imaging Pavilion educates patients on the services we provide. Here are a few questions we regularly answer from our patients:

What is radiology?

Radiology is the branch of medicine that uses X-rays, ultrasound, magnetic resonance and radiopharmaceuticals to create images of the body. In other words, radiology is used to view what is happening in parts of the body that cannot otherwise be seen. The resulting images help doctors in the diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury.

What is interventional radiology?

Interventional radiology is a subspecialty of radiology that uses medical imaging to diagnose and guide the treatment of medical conditions via needle-puncture of the skin. Many interventional radiology treatments have eliminated or reduced the need for surgery.

Is radiology safe?

Examinations that require ionizing radiation, such as those involving X-rays, are performed at closely monitored levels that are considered to be safe based on years of rigorous testing.

How qualified are Radiologists?

A Radiologist is a Doctor of Medicine who has completed college, medical school and a residency program in radiology. Our Radiologists are all certified by the American Board of Radiology. Many have completed additional subspecialty training by participating in a fellowship program beyond their residency.
