Welcome to the Birth Cottage The Birth Cottages are free-standing birth centers located in Milford and Salem, NH, owned and operated by Adrian Feldhusen, NHCM, CPM.   Located in the heart of south-central New Hampshire and close to the Monadnock mountains, their quaint town atmosphere and old-world charm welcome guests and birthing families.

What is birth cottage midwife?

Breastfeeding Support. The Birth Cottage midwives are committed to supporting a close and healthy nursing relationship for every person who plans to breastfeed. Midwives are available 24 hours per day in the early postpartum to help with nursing issues.

What is home birth?

When you choose home birth with our midwives, you are choosing to birth in your own space, on your own terms, supported by your loved ones and embracing one of the most intimate and life-changing experiences a family can have. Giving birth at home, you can seamlessly transition from early labor to active labor and birth, without the interruption of a car ride. The midwives arrive at your home when you are in active labor and offer labor support and monitor your well-being.

How long does a midwife visit take?

Prenatal visits with the midwives include 30 minutes of face to face time, giving you plenty of time for questions and discussion. Postpartum care includes a visit to your home between one and two days and then office visits until 6 weeks. What sets us aside is our focus on informed consent and shared decision making.

How long does a midwifery placement last?

Placements last between 3-12 months. We also offer limited observation hours for student nurses. Midwifery and nursing students enrolled in graduate-level programs have used the center as a research site, or for project-based work in people health and community health.

After you are stable and you have enjoyed one of our freshly prepared home-made meals, you can be released to rest and recover in the comfort of your own home, typically 2-12 hours after birth.

When you sign-up for Health Record Home, you will be able to: 1 View and share your personal health record (PHR) related to your hospital stays. 2 Have electronic access to an updated list of medications, diagnoses, allergies, lab test results, patient history and other healthcare information related to your inpatient hospital visit. 3 Access your hospital discharge instructions for better after-discharge care. 4 Manage family members’ health records once you are authorized.
