Although some clinicians use the terms EHR and EMR interchangeably, the benefits they offer vary greatly. An EMR (electronic medical record) is a digital version of a chart with patient information stored in a computer and an EHR (electronic health record) is a digital record of health information.
When assessing the two solutions, reviewers found Epic easier to use, administer, and do business with overall. However, reviewers preferred the ease of set up with Allscripts EHR. Reviewers felt that Epic meets the needs of their business better than Allscripts EHR.

To upload a document, users will find the icon shaped like a manila folder underneath the tab that says “Text” and above the white text box. Clicking this will give you options of where to find and choose the appropriate file (s). To be able to access a file downloaded onto a machine from Allscripts, the file will need to be downloaded into an accessible area of the local machine (likely the C drive) – instructions on how to change this are outlined below. Once the appropriate file has been located and uploaded, users will treat the top section of the window as if they are indexing an incoming fax. For example, “Document Type” should read as the preventative service report being uploaded (i.e. AWV report into AWV document type) and the document date should read as the date of service completion/date listed on the report. Users will choose whether the file should be indexed as an Encounter or linked to an appointment based on the practice’s workflow. Once the file has been attached and the appropriate indexing information is entered into the top of the page, users will click the “Save to Chart” button in the upper left of the window. When this is completed, the Prevounce report will be indexed into the patient’s chart just as if it were an incoming fax or scan and therefore can be found by providers and staff as if it were a scanned file or fax.
After locating the desired report for a completed preventative visit, users should locate the download icon in the “Actions” column to the right of the report. By clicking this link, users will download the corresponding report to their desktop.
