Dr. Gunter grew up in Opelika and graduated from Opelika High School in 1979. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and subsequently completed medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine at UAB in 1987. Dr. Gunter completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at UAB in 1990. After practicing in Decatur, Alabama Dr. Gunter returned home to practice in 1991. Dr Gunter has held numerous leadership positions in the area including Chief of Medicine and Chief of Staff at EAMC and he has also served as President and Treasurer of the Lee County Medical Society.
